The Borough of East Pittsburgh has entered into a 5-year contract with the Borough of North Braddock for municipal waste collection services, in which the fees charged to the Borough of East Pittsburgh are contractually set for the next five (5) years to $28.98 per unit per month of municipal waste pickup. There may be future opportunities to reduce this fee in the future based on the feasibility of the program, and residents of other municipalities will contribute more until all under the program are contributing equally to ensure the program’s operational stability.
IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING TRASH COLLECTION
Dear Residents,
Please be advised that the Borough will be implementing updated procedures regarding the collection of large, bulky, difficult-to-dispose-of items, and excessive amounts of refuse placed for weekly trash pickup.
Beginning on September 25, 2026, any oversized items, special disposal items, or excessive quantities of trash placed at the curb that require additional labor, equipment, or disposal costs may still be collected; however, the associated disposal and handling charges will be billed directly to the property owner and added to the next Borough trash bill.
Examples of items or situations that may result in additional charges include, but are not limited to:
- Furniture and large household items
- Construction or renovation debris
- Excessive quantities of bagged or canned trash in excess of 2 cubic yards
- Tires, televisions, appliances, or other special disposal items
- Any material requiring special handling or additional collection time
Please note that, per the collection policy, ONE large item may be placed for pickup per residential unit, and property owners or residents may use contractors, dumpsters or other containers, recycling donations, or private haulers to dispose of items in this list.
The Eastern Regional Sanitation Department may also be contacted at 412-271-1306 Ext. 207 or email at Northbraddock.ersd@gmail.com for special collection of such items in this list. *REQUESTS MUST BE MADE PRIOR TO NORMAL COLLECTION DATE*
The purpose of this policy is to help offset the increasing costs associated with the disposal of unusually large or excessive refuse while maintaining regular and prompt sanitation services for all borough residents.
Additional information for trash collection policies can be found on the borough website at www.eastpittsburghboro.com.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we continue working to maintain efficient and cost-effective sanitation services for the community.
FURTHER NOTICE TO RESIDENTS AND PROPERTY OWNERS
Each property is required to place solid waste into water-sealed containers with fitted lids per the Borough Ordinances. Cans may be placed for collection no later than 5:00 PM prior to collection day (e.g. Thursday at 5:00 PM). Properties in violation may receive violation notices and citations for noncompliance with local ordinances.

Rules, Regulations, and Recommendations for Large Cleanouts
The Borough recognizes the transient nature of rental properties and the need to clean clutter from a home; however, unusually large quantities of waste can overload the vehicles used for trash collection. If you are in the process of cleaning out your home, or if you are cleaning out a vacated apartment, please contact 412-271-1306 Ext. 207 to request a quote for a special pickup. Municipal waste in excess of two cubic yards as described above will NOT be collected without prior authorization and payment for a special pickup, and the Borough Code Enforcement Officer may issue letters of violation. You may also seek out a roll-off dumpster; however, there is a permit required, along with a $25.00 fee for placement in the street or sidewalk.
